I first met Danielle over two years ago at a wedding that RubySky was photographing. Her friends (our clients) were getting married and Danielle was asked to help out as a guestbook and program attendant, and she jumped in to help wherever else needed too. Danielle is also a photographer and you can find her work on her blog and on Facebook. On a little side note….I also met Brandy at this wedding and I use the term “met” loosely, as I was only keeping an eye on this girl and her fancy camera, wondering, “Who is she?” It turns out that she is also a super nice photographer, and her work can be found too on her blog and on Facebook. So yes, we’re all photographers and friends, and that means that we like each other’s photos on Facebook.
Anyway, Danielle contacted me early last spring, hoping to schedule a session with her son, Garrett, in July. She said, “I want to have these photos capture us at heart. I will incorporate some props, of course.” Perfect! Well, then a few days prior to our scheduled session, Danielle’s beloved grandmother passed away. I was so sad for her. She said, “Her and Garrett are, and always have been the two most special people in my life.” It was a very tough time for her, so rescheduling the session seemed like the best option.
So we decided to do a Christmastime session and it was so much fun! Garrett’s birthday is on Christmas Eve and they brought along two red balloons to celebrate…. Love this silhouette shot in the stairwell!
They looked great in their Christmassy (did you know that’s a real word?!) outfits.
Garrett looked so handsome and was as sweet as could be.
Danielle and Garrett have a pretty amazing relationship! And thanks to newly-opened restaurant, Bella Luna, was got a pretty cool backdrop.
Danielle, you are so gorgeous!
And the red balloons again, for Garrett’s 12th birthday.
They released the balloons and watched them fly away together.
After the urban setting, and an outfit change, we went out to Garrett’s grandparents’ farm. Danielle decided to incorporate a photo of her grandmother as a little girl, the old camera that the photo was taken with, and also a photo of her holding Garrett on the day he was born. Oh my heart, so precious!
We could not have asked for better lighting, maybe a bit warmer temperatures would have been nice though. Poor Garrett was freezing!
We may or may not have jumped an electric fence, ran from cows, and strategically avoided cow pies for these field pictures.
We finished up with some silly shots, including hats of their favorite team.
It was such a special time for these two and I’m so thankful that I was a part of it!
